[India] OSH Consultation for Ship Building Workers

An OSH consultation took place in Kolkata, India hosted by Workers Initiative with trade union leaders and activists from 4 shipbuilding yards across the country namely Kolkata, Mumbai, Goa and Ranchi. The consultation took place on January 9 to 10, 2016. As an outcome of this sharing and discussion on the situation of the workers in the shipbuilding yards and what are the issues that affects their work and health, a federation of ship building workers has been established in January 2016 to further strengthen and unify their struggles on wages, health and other issues. There will be an All-India OSH training for leaders and activists from the ship building yards in April 2016. AMRC, members of the OEHNI, ANROEV and ATNC network took part in this consultation and shared about the situation of workers in other parts of Asia to the trade unionists and activists present at the meeting.
